Born on 1 March 1954 in Poznan; daughter of the doctor Zbigniew Kraskowski and the technician Eugenia, née Biała. She attended the Karol Świerczewski Grammar School (now the Ignacy Paderwski Grammar School) in Poznan. After completing advanced secondary education in 1972, she studied Polish philology at the Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) in Poznan, graduating with a master's degree in 1977. She then worked for a year at Branch No. 42 of the Raczyński Library in Poznan. She made her debut as a literary critic in 1978 with a review of Britta Wuttke's novel Homunculus z tryptyku (The Triptych Homunculus). Her text appeared in the monthly "Nurt" (no. 8), where she continued to publish reviews until 1981. In 1978, she started a doctoral degree at the Faculty of Social Sciences at UAM, which she abandoned in 1981 after being appointed assistant at the Department of Literary Theory at the Institute of Polish Philology (IFP) at UAM. Her research focused on issues related to translation and interwar prose, in particular women's writing. Later she also engaged with feminist criticism and gender studies. In 1983, she took a postgraduate course for Polish language tutors at Polonicum Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners at the University of Warsaw. She held month-long fellowships at the University of Reading (1983) and University of Oxford (1985). In 1986 she was awarded a doctoral degree from UAM for her dissertation Twórczość Stefana Themersona— dwujęzyczność i literatura (The Works of Stefan Themerson: Bilingualism and Literature), which was supervised by Prof. Jerzy Ziomek. She was then appointed lecturer. Between 1988 and 1991, she was a Polish language tutor at universities in Uppsala and Stockholm. She published her first translations of English-language literature in the 1990s. Between 1996 and 1999, she was deputy director of teaching at the Institute of Polish Philology at UAM, before serving as associate dean for student affairs at the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology at UAM until 2005. She published articles, studies and reviews in journals including "Pamiętnik Literacki" (1983, 1985, 1997, 2008, and 2010), "Arkusz" (1996–2003), "Polonistyka" (1996 and 1998), "Teksty Drugie" (1996, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2008, and 2010), and "Ruch Literacki" (2010 and 2012). She was awarded a habilitation degree in 2000 for her study Piórem niewieścim. Z problemów prozy kobiecej dwudziestolecia międzywojennego (Written by Women: On women's interwar prose). She was subsequently appointed associate professor at UAM. She became director of the Department of Twentieth Century Literature, Literary Theory and Translation at IFP at UAM. That year she also established the degree programme in Polish studies for international students at Collegium Polonicum in Słubice. She was director of the programme until 2010. Between 2007 and 2011, she was deputy director of the Committee on Literary Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (KNoL PAN), while from 2008 to 2013 she was a member of the Bologna Experts Team in Poland. In 2009, she was made state appointed professor and full professor at UAM. That year she was also appointed to the scientific council of the inter-university Post-Dependence Studies Centre. The following year she became director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender and Identity Studies (Interdyscyplinarne Centrum Badań Płci Kulturowej i Tożsamości) at UAM. She co-founded the UAM Centre for Feminist Criticism (Pracownia Krytyki Feministycznej) at IFP. Together with Lucyna Marzec she co-edited and contributed entries to the online dictionary of female writers from Greater Poland Wielkopolski Słownik Pisarek (http://pisarki.wikia.com/wiki/Wielkopolski_Słownik_Pisarek). She married the English and Scandinavian studies scholar Tadeusz Wojciech Lange in 1978 (divorcing in 1981). In 1991 she married the opposition activist, poet and prose writer Lech Dymarski. He was director of the Greater Poland Museum of Independence (Wielkopolskie Muzeum Walk Niepodległościowych) in Poznan from 2003 to 2015. She lives in Poznan.
