Born on 29 January 1949 in Chojnice (now Pomeranian Voivodeship); son of the teachers Paweł Linkner and Małgorzata, née Korda. He completed primary school in the village of Odry, where his parents worked, before attending the Pedagogical Grammar School in Kościerzyn. After completing advanced secondary education in 1967, he studied Polish philology at the Training College for Primary School Teachers in Bydgoszcz. He then worked at primary schools in Będzimirowice (1969-70) and Tropiszew (1970-73), both in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. He started studying Polish philology at the University of Gdansk (UG) in 1970, graduating with a master's degree in 1974. He was employed as a Polish philologist at the Technical School of Construction in Kościerzyn from 1973 to 1977 and then at the Grammar School in Ozorków until 1982, followed by the Construction Colleges (Zespół Szkół Budowlanych) in Kościerzyn for a year until 1983. He was awarded a doctoral degree from UG in 1982 for his thesis Dramaty bałtyckie Tadeusza Micińskiego (Tadeusz Miciński's Baltic Dramas), which was supervised by Prof. Jan Tuczyński. He was then appointed lecturer at the Institute of Polish Philology (IFP) at UG. His research largely focused on the literature of Young Poland, Slavic mythology in literature, and the regional literature of Kashubia and Kociewie. During this period he published articles and book reviews in journals and periodicals including "Nautologia" (1978, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1989, and 1990-91), "Nurt" (1983-89), "Okolice" (1985-89), "Ruch Literacki" (1986, 1988-90, and 2000), "Tytuł" (1991; here he used the pseudonym: Paweł Łąkorski). He received the 1986 "Nurt" prize for his literary criticism. Between 1990 and 1992, he was editor-in-chief of the new social-cultural periodical "Gryf Kościerski". During this period he served one term as a town councillor in Kościerzyn (1990-95) and two terms as a district councillor on Kościerzyn District Council (1998-2002 and 2002-06). He was awarded a habilitation degree in 1993 for his study Mitologia słowiańska w literaturze Młodej Polski (Slavic Mythology in the Literature of Young Poland). He was then appointed lecturer with a habilitation, before becoming associate professor at UG in 1996. In 1999, he founded the Kashubian and Pomerian Book Fair in Kościerzyn. He was appointed to the jury of the J. Drzeżdżon Literary Prize which was organized by the Museum of Kashubian and Pomeranian Literature and Music in Wejherowo. During this period his reviews and articles appeared mainly in the local press: "Dziennik Bałtycki" (1992-98), "Wieczór Wybrzeża" (1992-98), "Gazeta Morska" – a local supplement of the national daily "Gazeta Wyborcza" (1992-98), "Pomerania" (1992-97 and 1999-2000; including texts using the pseudonyms Paweł Łąkorski, Paweł Łąkowski, Paweł Łącki, and Jan Stecki), "Kociewski Magazyn Regionalny" (1998-99, 2002-03, and 2005-10), "Rocznik Gdański" (1999, 2000, 2002, and 2005), and "Przegląd Artystyczno-Literacki" (1994 and 1999). In 2001, he co-founded the Kościerzyn Cultural Foundation (Kościerska Fundacja Kultury). He joined the editorial and scientific boards of the journals and periodicals "Teki Gdańskie" (in 2000) "Temat" (in 2005), "Życie Kaszub" (in 2005), and "Studia Słowianoznawcze" (in 2011). In 2004, he was made state-appointed professor, before being made full professor at UG three years later. He served for several years as head of the Department of the History of Nineteenth-Century Polish Literature at IFP. In 2009, he was appointed mentor of the Epicus Furor Circle of Doctoral Students at UG. He served as an expert advisor to the Ministry of National Education on teaching appointments and qualifications, while also advising on general education textbooks for teaching the Kashubian language. He was head of the Chapter of the Kociewie Pen (Kapituła Kociewskiego Pióra), a member of the jury of the Voivodeship Competition (Wojewódzki Konkurs) in Kościerzyn and of the jury of the Kashubian and Pomeranian Book Fair in Kościerzyn, and head of the jury of both the R. Landowski Prize in Tczew the and the J. Drzeżdżon Literary Prize in Wejherowo. He received the UG Rector's Prize in 1986, 1988, 1989, 1997, 2004 and 2015. He received the Literary Foundation Prize (Nagroda Funduszu Literatury) in 1998, the 2005 Stolem Medal, and the Kociewskie Pióro Publishing House Prize in 2007. He twice received the Angelus prize (in 2011 and 2015) from the town council for his services to Kościerzyn and the Mayor's Prize in 2011. He was named an honorary citizen of the town in 2015. He received the Gold Cross of Merit in 1998 and the Medal of the Commission of National Education 2004. He married political science graduate and teacher Jolanta Nowak in 1973; their daughter Monika was born in 1976. He lives in Kościerzyn.
