Born on 20 May 1952 in Legnica; daugther of Tadeusz Ślizankiewicz and Zofia, née Wilczek. She attended the Nicolaus Copernicus Grammar School in Tarnobrzeg between 1967 and 1971. She studied Polish philology at the University of Silesia (UŚ) in Katowice from 1971, graduating with a master's degree in 1975. She was then appointed assistant at the Institute of Polish Literature and Culture at UŚ (in 1991 it became the Institute of the Study of Polish Literature, INoLP, and was named after Ireneusz Opacki in 2005), where she worked at the Department of the History of Post-Romantic Literature. She made her debut in 1978 with a review of A. Martuszewska's study Poetyka polskiej powieści dojrzałego realizmu (1876–1895) (The Poetics of Polish High Realist Novels [1876-1895]), which was published in "Ruch Literacki" (no. 6). Her research focused on the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature, while later she also examined feminist issues in Polish literature and feminist literary criticism. She defended her doctoral thesis at UŚ in 1985. It was titled Powieści o „wieku nerwowym” (Novels on the "nervous age") and was supervised by Prof. Tadeusz Bujnicki. She was awarded a habilitation degree in 2000 for her study Ciało, pożądanie, ubranie. O wczesnych powieściach Gabrieli Zapolskiej (Body, Desire, Clothes: Gabriela Zapolska's early novels). She became a columnist with the periodical "Opcje" in 2001. Between 2001 and 2005, she taught courses on feminist literary criticism on the doctoral programme at the School of Social Sciences at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFiS PAN) in Warsaw. She subsequently taught on the Maria Konopnicka and Maria Dulębianka Postgraduate Gender Studies Programme at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBL PAN) in Warsaw. Between 2001 and 2011, she taught on feminist literary criticism on the postgraduate programme in gender studies at the Institute of Audiovisual Arts at the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow. She was also a supervisor in the Gender Section of the Scientific Circle of the Inter-Faculty Individual Studies in Humanities at UŚ (Sekcja Gender Koła Naukowego WolnoMISHlicieli UŚ). She was appointed professor at UŚ in 2005, while in 2012 she was made state-appointed professor. She married the UŚ professor, historian and literary theorist Krzysztof Kłosiński in 1977. They have a son, Michał (b. 1986). She lives in Sosnowiec.
