Born on 3 January 1955 in Warsaw; son of the ministerial clerk Adam Mejor, and the craftswoman and artist Danuta, née Gocman. He completed his advanced secondary education at the T. Reytan Grammar School in Warsaw in 1974, subsequently starting a degree in Classical philology at the University of Warsaw (UW). He graduated with a master's degree in 1979, joining the Polish Philological Society the same year. He then spent a short period in 1979/80 working for the international office of the Arkady Publishing House before taking up a position at the Department of Old Manuscripts at the National Library from 1980 to 1983. From 1983 to 1996 he was employed at the Department of Neo-Latin Philology at the Institute of Classical Philology at UW, initially as a research assistant and then as a lecturer from 1990. In his research, he focussed primarily on Neo-Latin, Medieval literary studies, Late Classical and Medieval writings, editing, and translations from Latin. He made his debut in 1982 with the article Ciekawy szesnastowieczny druk z Salamanki w zbiorach Biblioteki Narodowej (An interesting sixteenth-century manuscript from Salamanca in the collections of the National Library) in "Biuletyn Biblioteki Narodowej" (nos 1-4). His translations from Latin appeared in periodicals including "Meander" (1985) and "Ogród" (1991). He joined the International Association for Neo-Latin Studies in 1985. He held several fellowships abroad, namely at the Institute for Classical Philology at Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken (1987 and 1989), Fondation Hardt – Fondation pour l'étude de l'antiquité classique, Vandoevre-Genève (1988), the Institute for Classical Philology, Universität Wien (1993), and the Herzog August Bibliothek, Wolfenbüttel (1998). In 1990, he was awarded a doctoral degree from UW for his study Kształtowanie się tekstu poematu „Victoria Decorum” S.F. Klonowica. Edycja wybranych ksiąg: 36–38 (The development of S.F. Klonowic's epic poem "Victoria Decorum". The edition of selected books: 36-38). He was supervised by Prof. Maria Cytowska. He was employed at Department of Medieval Literature of the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBL PAN) from 1995, initially as a lecturer and then from 2003 as a senior lecturer. Between 1996 and 2000, he worked as a lecturer in Christian archaeology, Latin and German at the Diocesan Theological College in Ełk, Poland, which was associated with the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (UKSW) in Warsaw. In the 1999/2000 academic year, he ran a seminar on Medieval Latin literature at the Institute of Classical Philology at UW. From 2000 to 2021, he was a member of the editorial board of the Old Polish Studies journal "Studia Staropolskie. Series Nova", becoming editor-in-chief in 2011. In 2001/02, he stayed in Rome at the Polish Historical Institute working on Acta Nuntiaturae Polonae. His articles, scholarly reviews and translations appeared in journals including "Barok" (2004), "Pamiętnik Literacki" (2007), and "Ruch Literacki" (2008), as well as the yearbooks "Quaestiones Medii Aevi Novae" (2008–2009) and "Colloquia Litteraria" (2010). He also published in the periodicals "Przegląd Tomistyczny" (2013) and "Twórczość" (from 2020). He was awarded a habilitation degree from IBL PAN for his study Antyczne tradycje średniowiecznej praktyki pisarskiej. Subskrypcje późnoantycznych kodeksów (The Classical traditions of Medieval writing practices: The subscripts of Late Classical codexes). From 2000 to 2002, he was employed at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn as a lecturer before being appointed associate professor from 2002 to 2004, when he was made Chair of Classical History and Culture at the Institute of History and International Relations. From 2003, he served on the Scientific Council of IBL PAN (with the exception of one term from 2011). From 2005, he was an associate professor at the University of Bialystok where he was head of the Department of Classical and Old Polish Literature at the Institute of Polish Philology. In 2007, he received the University Rector's Prize. In 2006, he participated in the workshops Edieren lateinischer patristischer Texte (Editing of Latin patrician texts) organized by the Church Fathers' Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. In 2007, he joined the Association Paléographique internationale: culture, écriture, société. From 2009, he held the Chair of Medieval and Neo-Latin Studies at the Institute of Classical Philology and Cultural Studies at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (UKSW) in Warsaw. Between 2010 and 2014, he was director of the University's new Institute of Classical Philology and Cultural Studies, while in 2012 he received the UKSW rector's prize. In 2011, he was appointed editor in chief of the publication series Bibliotheca Litterarum Medii Aevi. Artes – Opera. He served as an expert assessor on the National Programme for the Development of the Humanities from 2012 and then for the National Science Centre (NCN) from 2014. Between 2014 and 2020, he was a member of the scientific council of the cultural studies yearbook "Załącznik Kulturoznawczy". In 2014, he joined the International Medieval Sermon Studies Society. He was a member of the editorial committee of the publication series Florilegium. Studia Classica, Mediaevalia et Neolatina, becoming editor-in-chief in 2018. He was made state-appointed professor in 2017. In 2019, he joined the scientific council of the periodical "Ogród". He was a member of the editorial team of the publication series Biblioteka Pisarzy Staropolskich (Library of Old Polish Writers) and also worked as a publishing editor for the series Bibliotheca curiosa. In 2020, he was appointed director of the Department of Medieval Literature at IBL PAN. The same year, he started organizing the national Medieval Studies Seminars (Seminariów mediewistycznych). In 2021, he again conducted research at the Herzog August Bibliothek, Wolfenbüttel, and joined the Interdisciplinary Medieval Studies Research Team Textus et cultura the same year. He was a member of the Scientific Councils of the Institute of Classical Philology at UW, the Institute of History and Political Science at the University of Olsztyn, the Institute of Polish Philology at the University of Białystok, the Faculty of Humanities at UKSW, and the Neo-Latin Commission of the Committee of Classical Studies at the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit in 2015. He lives in Warsaw. In 1983, he married the Romance studies scholars Ewa, née Kulpińska. They have two children, Jan and Maria.
